The Soft Side of a Hard Shell–The Real CB Scott–By Tim Rogers

In a phone exchange with my good friend C.B.Scott, I have made a few discoveries.  First, I want to say that C.B. is a dear friend of mine and he can give as good as I give.  We certainly have a friendship that many do not understand.  However, it is this uniqueness that I appreciate about him. Second, the title reference to “Hard Shell” is not about theology but about personality.  He comes across as hardened, but he is a softie deep down.

Brother CB comes across as some hardened person that makes one tremble with fear after one of his verbal tirades.  I have seen him move through an argument with absolute stellar academic scholarship and then verbally beat down one who disagrees with some of the most harsh language that you would walk away in tears.  However, Brother C.B. is not a hardened person his is a heart of compassion and caring that is not surpassed by any Christian.  Brother C.B. got saved while he was reading a Gideon Bible he stole.  In that salvation experience God changed my Brother’s heart and gave him a new one. When it comes to the Gospel, Brother C.B. not only has it he gives it.  When it comes to those that cannot stand for themselves Brother C.B. is one that sacrifices personal humiliation and financial gains in order to stand for truth and for those that cannot defend themselves.

Going to a Praise Band By Tim Rogers

We are investigating whether or not a Praise Band will enhance our worship.  Our desire is that we become attractive to guests that want to really be entertained in worship. Instead of trying to find a Praise Band from within our fellowship we decided to go outside to fill the musicians.  Well, we have found a great Praise Band that is certain to draw a crowd sing down the praises.  While they are not the best to look at we felt they would be good because all of our people would have their eyes closed with their hands raised as that is the way most concert crowds react in worship.  We have decided to give them the first fifteen minutes to entertain lead us in worship. What do you think?

The Gifts I am Giving for Christmas!!!! UPDATED

As Christmas approaches I wanted to take time to reveal my gift list and to also tell our readers that this is my last post of 2011.  I thought about many gifts I could give.  (See comment section for information concerning the removal of this sentence concerning Jonathan Merritt)  However, that is just mere gossip and I will go no further with that.  I thought about getting Jonathan’s dad, James a key to his church building so he can open it on Sunday, December 25 to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  I thought about getting C.B. Scott a phone number to the Baptist Relief organization as he has the Presbyterian Relief organization still in his church.  I thought about getting Southern Evangelical Seminary a metal rod to insert in their backbone as it seems they are very limp-backed when it comes to publicly commenting on error.  However, all of these, mentioned above along with those identified below, are mere speculation and are given in the spirit of “Dirty Santa” gift giving at Christmas.

In a recent New York Times article the journalist offered a solution to people not being hired because of some physical flaw in their appearance:

A more radical solution may be needed: why not offer legal protections to the ugly, as we do with racial, ethnic and religious minorities, women and handicapped individuals?

Legal protections for people who are “looked over” because they are hard to “look at”.  Or, as we would say in the backwoods of North Carolina, “Bless his/her heart!! He/She is so ugly their mama tied a pork chop around their neck to get the dog to play with them”.  Now, if I understand the law (I have contacted my legal counsel but have not heard back from him.  Thus, I contacted 1-800-Get-Lawyer and am eagerly awaiting one of these 5 lawyers to reply.) concerning discrimination two things must be proven.  First, it must be proven that you were discriminated against.  If that cannot be proven then the next step is null and void. If one can prove discrimination then one has to prove they are ugly.

With that test case scenario, I thought I would contemplate who I could sue.  You see, I pass the ugly part very easily.  Any judge with enough vision to see how to open a door can see I am ugly.  Now to prove I was discriminated against.

SBC Voices does not link to any of my articles on my blog.  Thus, I believe Dave Miller and the gang are discriminating against me because I am ugly.  SBC Today certainly does not discriminate against me as they are beginning to place pictures beside the posts. Praisegod Barebones has not commented nor linked to one of my posts lately.  It has to be due to the fact I am ugly. Brad Whitt just does not compliment me any longer and doesn’t comment on my blog.  I know he thinks I am ugly, he has told me as much.  The boys over at the SEBTS blog do not link to my posts.  I wonder if they think I must be ugly.

Peter Lumpkins claims that he cannot log onto my website.  I believe he is discriminating against me because I am ugly.  He certainly can get here if he wants but he chooses not to be associated with me because I am ugly. Howell Scott, and I must be careful how I speak about my legal counsel, has not visited my site to log a comment in a long while.  He must be discriminating against me because I am ugly.  I know it is because he comments everywhere else.  Shoot, he even has a post over at SBC Voices.  They even second-run his articles.  It is the same with William Thornton.  He also must be discriminating against me because I am ugly.  But, William may be too busy checking the salaries of pastors to care if I am ugly or not.  That brings about another thought. Maybe William can check the salaries of ugly pastors versus good looking pastors.  Better yet, maybe he could check the good looking denomination leaders versus the ugly denominational leaders.

This has been fun, but before you laugh too loud and long.  Consider this.

We actually already do offer such protections in a few places, including in some jurisdictions in California, and in the District of Columbia, where discriminatory treatment based on looks in hiring, promotions, housing and other areas is prohibited.

I am waiting for the Equal Opportunity Program for Ugly People to be put in place.  That way I can then apply for a denomination position and if I get turned down, I will have a case because I am ugly.

Why the Dust-Up?

When Southern Baptists left Phoenix, Arizona they left a delayed “dust-up” with the response of Dr. Al Mohler.  Well we now see the results of this dust storm. I pray the dust cloud doesn’t cover the SBC as it did Phoenix, Arizona. :)

It is the last part of 2010 and I am logging off until after the first of 2011.  I plan to try and post two posts per week in 2011.  I am looking forward to seeing what God will do in the new year.  Until then, if you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping maybe this video will inspire you with a gift idea.

SBC President, 1st VP and 2nd VP Nominees in Phoenix 2011

As we begin the run for Phoenix I know the usual custom concerning the election of officers.  It has been customary to re-elect the President of the SBC to a second term.  However, Dr. Bryant Wright has not been emergent enough for me.  He wants to do changes in order to reach a younger generation and I just do not feel that he is moving things along fast enough.  Therefore, I plan to place into nomination each of the three gentlemen (and I use that term lightly) in the photo below.  If we are going to make changes in the SBC then let us, as one popular comedian has made famous, GIT-R-DONE.

Keeping Everyone Informed

The first time I was on a short-term mission trip speaking through a translator was very difficult.  One thing I learned very early was that I did not use proper grammer when I speak.   The interpreter had a horrible time trying to interpret what I was saying.  My team joked that we had to have an interpreter for me in order to help our language interpreter understand what I was saying. :)

I learned then that we must make certain that we all understand what is being said.  Someone said it this way; “Communication is a great thing when it works.” In order to be clear when I communicate I try to speak in pictures.  With that in mind I want to be crystal clear about the following terms in order for us all to better understand the language.
