Following the report by Peter Lumpkins at sbc tomorrow of the recent trustee meeting at Liberty University (LU) has been like watching David preparing to place the stone in his sling. David, I imagine, stood there placing that stone in the pocket of that sling while hearing Goliath spew all kinds of accusations at him. Peter Lumpkins merely stood and spoke about something he believed in and spoke glowingly of the trustees at LU. How did Goliath respond to David’s statement of conviction? He “disdained him”. (1 Samuel 17:42) Then he made accusations against David as if it were David’s fault that Goliath was standing in front of God’s people defying the on true living God. How does the Goliath of the Christian Educational world, LU, respond to a David in the blogging world, Peter Lumpkins? They released a barrage of legal eagles and sends multiple emails threatening legal action. Then the Goliath of the Christian educational world takes the additional step to make a public announcement explaining again that Peter’s article is inaccurate and harm caused by trustees making a statement against Mark Driscoll’s invitation is somehow Peter’s fault.
Well, we see that SBC Voices was pulled into the act by Goliath’s sword bearer when he didn’t know how the SBC is set up. It is apparent the legal department at LU believes the SBC is a hierarchy and those blogging with a moniker of “SBC” is somehow connected to this hierarchy. I want to look at the SBC Voices article in order to share a point they use.
It does not deny that some kind of vote occurred about Mark Driscoll, perhaps it was not unanimously.
